No longer there

We are sorry, she said
You’re in for a shock
When you see your dad
But he was fine last night
Was kevs reply?
Full of devilment, teasing my child
The vision before us wasn’t our dad
A pale helpless case
Head hung to one side
Drool dripping degrading the man
Eyes clouded, going blind
No body output
No more laughter or words
No more devilish glints from his eyes
Over the next few days his body will shut down
He will die
His fragile food starved shell
Totally deflated
Just as a balloon would look starved of air
The man who’d fought to live
He’s no longer there
dad or my father in law battled with copd for yrs it along with a few other complications took him in the end ,id never seen some one i loved die in front of me it was nit the man i called dad in that hospice bed .............................

The imagery in this one really hits home makes me remember my granddad he had to suffer in the end too. To see that same person who seemed at some points in my life invincible in such a feeble state truly shatters one :(
